Weddings & Renewal of Vows

Many couples are now seeking a wedding ceremony outside the restrictions of a particular denomination and a spiritual ceremony and blessing is a creative and beautiful alternative.

a single magic, a single salvation – and that is called loving” - Hesse

How does it work?

As an Interfaith Minister, at this time,  I am legally able to perform weddings in Scotland and Ireland  however, this is not the case in England. Whilst a change in legislation to allow this is being sought, couples therefore usually arrange to complete the short civil ceremony in the local registry office before the full wedding celebration in a venue of their choice.

You may be particularly interested in a wedding blessing if:

  • You both want a wedding ceremony completely unique to your relationship

  • One or both of you have been married previously and have decided on doing it differently.

  • There are different faiths or cultures that you want to honour and blend into your marriage service and life together.

  • You describe yourselves as spiritual rather than religious or are not committed to any one spiritual path or do not consider yourself as either.

An initial meeting usually happens first, after the date has been agreed, where we will discuss all your plans. I will support you both to begin to name the intentions of your marriage so you enter it having looked honestly at your reasons for taking this step and consciously chosen exactly what it is you are both committing to.

I will also support you in creation of your VOWS that are already in your heart to one another and lead the whole service from start to finish. Two or three meetings usually will suffice, however I am available for spiritual counselling throughout the process, as needed.

A REHEARSAL is essential and will bring all the elements together and is often an opportunity for some laughter and release of tension and any anxiety.

Elements that can be included in the wedding ceremony include

  • Anointing of hands – to mark the passage into the new life together

  • Hand-fasting – the expression “tying the knot” comes from this ancient tradition

  • Sharing of token drink – popular in many cultures for the couple to drink from one cup

  • Breaking or sharing of food amongst family and friends symbolising that we are all nourished from the same sources the couple

The possibilities for your wedding ceremony are many and varied. I will work with you to create something wonderful and unique to you both.

Renewal of Vows

This is a beautiful intimate ceremony to honour your journey so far, the love you share and the possibilities yet to come. Usually with close friends, children and other immediate family there and even involved. I will support you both in deciding your vows to each other again, holding your intention, purpose, and vision to anchor your love, witnessed by those closest to you.
